The pro wrestling rumor mill never stops, especially with so many recent WWE roster cuts. Let’s see what today’s rumors are all about!
Top Rumor of the Day: More details on WWE roster cuts
According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, one reason why WWE released so many wrestlers after WrestleMania 42 is because TKO was essentially playing “catch-up” after not cutting nearly as many wrestlers at this time last year. TKO was “trying to be good guys” last year after taking over the company, and “held back” on mass roster cuts as a result.
As far
as this year’s cuts are concerned, TKO wanted to “remove a similar amount” of main roster stars as were being called up from NXT. WWE Creative “made the call” on which specific wrestlers to cut, based on who they didn’t have plans for. There were also “additional cuts on the SmackDown side” because the show is losing its third hour soon, and not as many wrestlers are needed to fill that reduced time slot.
The wrestlers who agreed to take a significant pay cut were able to keep their jobs by doing so, but they are “on the list” of talent whose “prospects aren’t that good” when it comes to WWE’s future plans.
