There is a lot of attention on the young players that make up the Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive line. Rookies Peter Woods and R Mason Thomas headline the youth, but fourth-year defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah is still just 24 years old. The former first-round pick is technically also in the category of talented but unproven.
He missed all of the 2025 season with a hamstring injury, but reports from coaches and teammates out of training camp point to Anudike-Uzomah making progress towards making an impact
on the Chiefs’ defense.

To help prepare him for such an important season, Anudike-Uzomah sought out Karlaftis for peer workouts ahead of the offseason program. With 30.5 sacks in four seasons with the Chiefs, Karlaftis made for an ideal offseason training partner.
“Felix is humming — he worked really, really hard this offseason,” Karlaftis said Monday. “He and I got together a few times. He really wants it. He’s feeling like this is his chance. This is his moment. He’s got a lot to prove, and he knows it. So he’s doing everything he can to improve every single day and show not just Kansas City but the whole league what he’s got and what he’s made of.”

2. Defensive back Jadon Canady made a leaping pass-breakup during 7-on-7 drills.
Canady was responsible for one of the plays of the morning when he made a leaping, full-extension pass-breakup on a high, arching pass during a 7-on-7 period. The rookie defensive back got his fingertips on the ball to disrupt an otherwise likely completion, logging another impressive play in what has seemingly been a strong camp.
Elsewhere on defense, safety Jaden Hicks recorded a pass-breakup on a deep crossing route during 7-on-7 drills. Linebacker Kam Arnold also made a noteworthy play with a pass-breakup during the 7-on-7 segment, punching the ball away from the intended receiver at the catch point.

Woods chased down a flushed-from-the-pocket Patrick Mahomes in team drills, who ended up making a poor play as a result. He took full advantage of his matchups against Kahlil Benson at right guard, including one standout repetition where he tossed Benson into the backfield. As much as he offers rushing the passer, he looks to be very stout in the run game.
This came a day after Steve Spagnuolo said the rookie had a ways to go.

Training Camp

Riser: Tight end Jake Briningstool
We haven’t seen much from second-year tight end Jake Briningstool, who took the equivalent of a redshirt season in 2025 while battling a hamstring injury.
The 2025 undrafted free agent put two of his best practices together in a row this week, though, earning some first-string reps with quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Wednesday while also impressing Tuesday with a twisting catch over the middle.
Reid complimented Briningstool Wednesday for his recent progress.
The Athletic’s Jesse Newell says that Johnson has been the fourth-preferred running back among the coaching staff in training camp thus far. That makes him quite a long shot to become a clear RB2 by the time the regular season arrives.
Although Smith is only entering his second season, experience plays a huge role in K.C.’s offense. He has already learned what Andy Reid expects from his players and how to earn more playing time.

Defensive end Maxx Crosby hit quarterback Kirk Cousins twice during the team period. And when Crosby hit Cousins’ arm a second time, the 15-year veteran had had enough. Cousins got into Crosby’s face, grabbing the All-Pro’s jersey, while both exchanged words before it was broken up.
Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said it’s a part of camp, but he wants his players to be smart when those situations occur.

The truth is the Chiefs have been hamstrung all offseason by last year’s free agent class.
Moore is on the books for $18.6 million this year. Only Chris Jones, Mahomes, Smith and Nick Bolton have larger cap hits for the 2026 campaign.
Kristian Fulton ranks seventh on the team with a $13 million cap hit. Moore and Fulton combine for $32 million against the cap.
