Well, at least the docuseries should be good.
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez gave the fans something to hold onto after a frustrating 2-0 defeat on the road at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. He gave an honest and insightful assessment of the club’s slow summer transfer window ahead of a season in which the club would play plenty more matches than they did a year ago.
Here is the entire interview.
The Argentina defender began the interview by saying he had to control himself, but there wasn’t much of that.
Martinez and the rest of the United squad have been poor this season, and the approach under Michael Carrick hasn’t helped, but his points about the lack of support in bringing more quality into the squad will resonate with fans regardless. The summer featured midfield reinforcements and not much else in a team that already lacked depth throughout the squad. There were similar concerns from Harry Maguire in the summer, who had hoped for more signings in the preseason before Carlos Baleba became the lone first team reinforcement the rest of the way.
That squad depth is exposed now with Luke Shaw having no support behind him, a lack of options at right back, and a thin forward line without Benjamin Sesko.
