The Commanders have added another linebacker to the mix, and it’s one diehard D.C. football fans should know well.
Former DC Defenders linebacker Curtis Jacobs was signed to Washington’s roster, the Commanders announced on Tuesday. There was no corresponding move with this afternoon announcement, as Washington released two players earlier in the day, when the Byron Cowart signing was made formal.
Jacobs joins an athletic position group featuring Sonny Styles, Leo Chenal and Frankie Luvu, plus Jordan
Magee, Kain Medrano and Ale Kaho.
Jacobs was signed by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2024, but was also a Defenders draft pick that year. Jacobs had a practice-squad stints with a few teams, but never stuck around long.
The Glen Burnie, MD, native and Penn State product had 42 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in 10 regular-season games with the Defenders.
The 24-year-old will be added to the mix as a depth piece and, surely, a special-teams contributor.
As a note,the Commanders released guard Sala Aumavae-Laulu and safety Rob McDaniel as part of the transaction to add Cowart on Tuesday morning.
