Conor McGregor has been the biggest draw in the UFC for many years, but the former two-division champion still seems unsatisfied with the credit he receives for being a global superstar.
As he continues to recover from ACL surgery in his knee, McGregor took to Twitter to tout his star power after watching Canelo Alvarez get plenty of attention for his win over Christian Mbilli on Saturday. Canelo has widely been viewed as boxing’s biggest draw, but McGregor says there’s really no comparison to what
he’s done in his career.
Add to that, McGregor promises he’s going to ratchet things up even more as he prepares for his hopeful comeback in 2027 and the final fight on his UFC contract.
“How many views did the Canelo fight get? How many in attendance? Gate?” McGregor wrote on social media. “Man I outdo ALL of these people in sales. Majorly. EVERY SINGLE ONE. With ease. Maybe even combined. I don’t even be trying.
“I was on the same time as the World Cup semifinal and still done all them numbers in that last bullshit that I’ve to sit with for another few months before I return. I’m going to actually try to sell the fight for my next one. My final fight. See what numbers I can generate. Keep outdoing my own records.”
McGregor already holds the record for the most pay-per-view sales in UFC history, with his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov topping the list. He can also tout his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather as one of the biggest selling fights of all time behind only Mayweather’s bout against Manny Pacquiao, which by all accounts remains the most successful pay-per-view event ever.
Regardless of past accomplishments, McGregor is determined to draw as many eyeballs to his next fight as possible, whenever that happens. McGregor has targeted International Fight Week 2027 for his next fight as he comes back from his knee injury. The fight is expected to serve as McGregor’s last bout on his current UFC contract.
