David Benavidez is all set to defend his belt.
On Saturday, Benavidez puts his WBC light heavyweight title on the line against Anthony Yarde in a 12-round championship fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On Friday, all 16 fighters for the fight card successfully made weight for their respective matchups.
Benavidez came in at 174.3 pounds, while Yarde tipped the scales at 173.9 pounds.
After making weight, Benavidez promised a big performance on Saturday.
“Ain’t nobody taking nothing from me,” Benavidez said. “I’m really excited. I’ve been training extremely hard for this fight. I’m excited to get in there and see what Anthony Yarde is about. I’m excited to get in there and feel his power, and I’m excited to give the fans a great fight.”
Saturday’s co-main event also features a title fight as Brian Norman Jr. defends his WBO welterweight title against former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney. Both undefeated fighters also successfully made weight, with Norman coming in at 146.12 pounds, while Haney weighed 146.6 pounds.
This is the Haney’s first fight up at welterweight, and he had a simple message for Norman ahead of their fight.
“The talking is done,” Haney said. “Now it’s time to do work.”
