Rey Mysterio is unquestionably one of the greatest luchadores in the history of professional wrestling. Nothing he did or did not do in the main event of night one of AAA Triplemania 34 in Las Vegas last night (Fri., Sept. 11, 2026) was going to change that.
But I’ll be damned if he didn’t pull off yet another amazing feat.
At 51-years-old, no less!
This man went out there and had a legitimately entertaining battle against Omos in what was a perfectly executed David vs. Goliath style encounter. Mysterio
is something like 5 ft, 6 inches tall while Omos is over 7 ft. There is no world where this should make any sense, but they figured out a way to pull it off.
This tweet from Raion does a great job of showcasing the highlight of the match where their brilliance was on full display:
Rey methodically attacked the big man all around the ring to finally get him down to hit the splash and it felt like that should be the end. Omos kicking out was electric.
In the end, Mysterio ate a big boot and a massive chokeslam to lose the match, all in the name of setting up Dominik Mysterio defending the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano in the main event of night two come Sunday. Omos will now be there as insurance. Rey may not be able to make it, considering they ran a post-match angle where Omos choke slammed the veteran onto the announcer’s table while he was already laid out and tied down on a stretcher.
Yeah, this absolutely ruled from start to finish.
