Coming off four straight days of practices, the New England Patriots are dealing with multiple injuries. Speaking to reporters ahead of Friday’s team scrimmage, head coach Mike Vrabel gave updates on some of them: wide receiver Romeo Doubs, offensive tackle Will Campbell, cornerback Carlton Davis and special teamer Brenden Schooler.
Here’s the information that he gave.
Patriots injury updates: 8/7
WR Romeo Doubs: After missing back-to-back practices, Vrabel said that Doubs will be with the team again on Friday. His absence, he explained,
was not injury related: “It was a personal thing, I don’t know if he wants to address it. It’s all very positive. But he’s back and ready to work.”
OT Will Campbell: Vrabel said that the Patriots’ starting left tackle, who had been wearing a brace on his left arm the last two practices and was limited on Thursday, was not expected to participate in Friday’s scrimmage. However, he sounded optimistic that Campbell would be “ready to go” after the weekend.
CB Carlton Davis III: Davis has been out since the first week of training camp, and it sounds like his absence will extend into next week. Vrabel said that he anticipates the starting cornerback to be out at least until the end of next week, and that he will neither participate in the upcoming joint practice with the Colts on Tuesday nor the opener against them two days later.
S Brenden Schooler: Schooler remains on the non-football injury list, and Vrabel refrained from giving concrete updates. What he did say is that the Patriots want to be “very cautious” with the team captain and that there “is no real reason to push that or force that issue.” He remains a “large part” of the Patriots’ plans even though there would be no “reason to rush him back now until he’s as close to 100% as he possibly can be.”
The Patriots will hold their 12th practice of the summer on 10:15 a.m. ET on Friday. They will subsequently have two off-days before returning on Monday.
