The St. Louis Cardinals have added youth to the 40-man roster and designated a veteran reliever for assignment to make room.

Joshua Baez along with left-handed pitchers Cooper Hjerpe and Brycen Mautz are now on the 40-man for protection from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. Reliever Jorge Alcala was designated for assignment.
In other news from around the league: Josh Naylor was re-signed by the Seattle Mariners to a 5-year, 92 million dollar contract. He credited the clubhouse dog, a Labrador Retriever named Tucker, for making him feel at home in Seattle after the mid-season trade.
ESPN reporting that Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga accepted the clubs qualifying offer. Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff, Detroit Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres and New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham also reportedly accepted QO’s.
