Newcastle United continues to face uncertainty surrounding Bruno Guimaraes’ future as Arsenal maintains its pursuit of the club captain, despite the Magpies insisting he is not for sale.
While Newcastle has repeatedly rejected approaches from the Premier League champions and continues to value the Brazil international at €118 million (£100 million), fresh details have emerged over why Guimaraes is pushing for a move to the reigning champions this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, Guimaraes’ desire to leave
is currently “immovable,” with sources indicating the midfielder still believes a transfer to Arsenal can happen before the window closes.
The report identifies three key factors behind that stance. The first is Newcastle’s decision to part ways with several high-profile teammates over the past year, including Alexander Isak last season, as well as Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.
“The situation has become increasingly frustrating for Guimarães, who has had to watch as the club has parted ways with other important squad members,” TEAMtalk wrote.
The second factor is Newcastle’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, with the report stating the 48-cap Brazil international remains eager to compete in Europe’s top club competition.
The third is related to the second one and has to do with timing. Guimaraes turns 29 in November and won’t have many —if any — chances at hoisting a European trophy in Tyneside, and that adds to TEAMtalk’s information reporting that those around the midfielder believe “time is running out for him to secure a big-money move.”
Despite the player’s stance, Newcastle remains determined to keep its captain and won’t gift him to the Gunners. According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies continue to insist Guimaraes is not available for transfer and have maintained their humongous valuation intact, a figure that for now is delaying the inevitable.
Newcastle has already returned to training for the upcoming season and expects Guimaraes back from the World Cup in a few days to take part in the preseason activities with the rest of his teammates.
