Former Bayern Munich academy product Adin Ličina could be one of those players the club ends up regretting losing — or at least one who could eventually provide Bayern with a nice financial return.
The 19-year-old German U19 international left Bayern Munich on a free transfer in February to join Juventus, believing the move would provide him with a clearer pathway toward professional football. His first season in Italy was spent with Juventus Next Gen before he was sent on loan to Serie B side Cremonese
this summer.
So far, Ličina appears to be making the most of the opportunity per Tz.
The attacking midfielder has registered two goals and one assist in his first six competitive appearances for Cremonese, showing enough promise to push his current market value to around €10 million, according to Transfermarkt.
That is where things get particularly interesting for Bayern.
According to a report from kicker, Bayern negotiated a 30% sell-on clause when Ličina left the club. The Bavarians have also reportedly secured a matching right, meaning they would have the opportunity to negotiate first if another club makes an offer for the youngster.
That could eventually give Bayern a route back into the picture if Ličina develops into the player many expected him to become. When Ličina left Munich, sporting director Christoph Freund made it clear that Bayern still believed in his potential: “Adin Ličina came to FC Bayern as a young talent, was developed at our campus, and is now looking for his way in top international football.”
For now, Ličina remains under contract with Juventus until 2029 and will spend the season with Cremonese. The club currently finds itself battling near the bottom of Serie B, meaning there is plenty of work ahead.
However, if Ličina continues developing, Bayern could ultimately benefit from the academy graduate they allowed to leave — either financially or potentially by bringing him back to Munich.
Considering he left for free, a 30% sell-on clause alongside a matching right could prove to be very smart business from Bayern Munich’s perspective.
