Fresh off the
heels of a defeat in Der Klassiker, Borussia Dortmund bounced back with a solid 4-2 away win against FC København, pushing the club to a tie for fourth place in the Champions League league phase.
Dortmund struck first with a beautiful golazo from Felix Nmecha, before an unfortunate own goal that clattered off Waldemar Anton saw København equalize. Luckily, Dortmund came out roaring in the second half and scored three goals in a row from Ramy Bensebaini, Nmecha again, and Fabio Silva, before København grabbed a consolation prize in stoppage time. Here are my man of the match candidates:
Felix Nmecha
Here’s Nmecha’s first goal in all its beauty:
In addition to that gorgeous goal, Nmecha was a maestro in midfield. He almost assisted on a beautiful run and through ball that Maxi Beier unfortunately shot wide. For his second goal, he held off a challenge before getting a shot off that sent København keeper Dominik Kotarski the wrong way.
Ramy Bensebaini
In addition to converting the penalty, Bensebaini led the team in defensive contributions (combined tackles, interceptions, blocks, and clearances), including two crucial tackles on Youssoufa Moukoko.
Serhou Guirassy
While he wasn’t credited with an assist, Guirassy’s holdup play in the lead-up to Nmecha’s first goal was terrific, as it was throughout the game.
Carney Chukwuemeka
Chukwuemeka came on as a substitute, but looked fantastic in his 30 or so minutes on the pitch. He held up the ball well for Nmecha’s second goal and almost had an amazing goal when he dribbled through three or four opponents.
