The upcoming release of Matchbox: The Movie doesn’t just mean a ton of commercials for the third John Cena flick that’s been released since June. It means a ton of John Cena press appearances, and as we’ve already been reminded, those usually involve talk of WWE.
In his appearance on TODAY this morning (Oct. 5), Cena announced when we’ll see that new WWE event he made a “big announcement” about at May’s Backlash premium live event. We’ve had more debate than details when it comes to The John Cena Classic,

Toward the end of his appearance on TODAY, Cena gave us the month when his first Classic will be taking place. He also refers to his WWE character as intellectual property… which made me throw up in my mouth a little bit, but isn’t something I was terribly surprised to hear said by the fascinating human and consummate corporate representative that is John Felix Anthony Cena:

“And giving the vote to the people, our audience is going to decide our champion on that night. So it’s a really unique live event. I don’t even know if it’s going to work, but I’m still taking bold chances in the WWE space. And I’m proud to be helping the John Cena Classic.”
We had a rumor saying the Cena Classic was pencilled in for Dec. 12, but Wrestlepalooza 2 was just announced for that date in Perth, Australia. The following Saturday is free, and would put the Cena Classic opposite AEW’s Worlds End PPV, so…
