Day 14 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Monday, August 17. It’s a big week ahead in the quarterback competition.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 14 (8/17/26)
1. Reps Plan for the Week: The Browns have a few regular practice sessions this week, including today. On Thursday, though, they have the joint practice against the Bills. Head coach Todd Monken said that if the practice goes well, some veterans or starters won’t play in the preseason game. They are still sticking with the plan to have QB Shedeur Sanders play the first half
against Buffalo, QB Deshaun Watson play the third quarter, and QB Dillon Gabriel play the fourth quarter.
2. Injury Updates: After having a solid first preseason game, it was good to see CB Michael Coats back on the field for practice. Also returning to practice were CB Nate Evans, OG Zak Zinter, CB Myles Bryant, and DT Elijah Chatman.
Other players remained idle, with a new person being out for practice was DE Alex Wright.
3. Do What Works: We know that WR Jerry Jeudy has the talent to win one-on-one matchups and be effective, but something needs to be done to get him back into a groove. Last week, we heard head coach Todd Monken talk about getting Jeudy the ball on crossing patterns. That seems to be working effectively for Jeudy, and could be an asset for the Browns to stick with it, as QB Shedeur Sanders began team drills with it:
4. Corners Making an Early Impact: The Browns’ cornerbacks had a nice early start, as CB Denzel Ward nearly had an interception, and then CB Michael Coats continued his mid-camp surge to make a case for a roster spot as he picked off QB Dillon Gabriel. All takes of Gabriel being thrown into the starting mix have come to a halt.
Speaking of the Ward miss, Sanders said that his interception against the Bears came when the ball slipped, but then what’s the cause of this one?
5. Get the Ball in His Hands: You get the feeling that a lot of the Browns’ offense this year will be the simple nature of getting the ball into the hands of WR KC Concepcion, and letting him go to work:
6. Move the Ball Drills Still Not Successful: Both quarterbacks had high completion percentage and touchdown rates in what was considered a lighter practice, but neither of the top two quarterbacks could get the offense into field goal range in the two-minute drill:
7. Brownies: Rookie OT Austin Barber saw some work at guard and OL KT Leveston at tackle with the second-team offense. … Before practice, Monken indicated that RB Raheim Sanders will get his shot at the No. 3 running back role in this week’s preseason game after RB Ahmani Marshall had it last week. … LB Carson Schwesinger still remains out with not much of an update on why.
8. Up Next: The Browns will practice on Tuesday, August 18 at 1:15 pm.
