Saving the best for last, the 2025 college football season offers its final full weekend action. For FBS teams it’s a slate of the nations premiere teams on conference championship weekend. The outcomes will be a huge when determining playoff seeding, while FCS, D2, and D3 football teams are in Round 2 of their respective playoff runs.
So, how the FBS seeding for the playoffs work?
The at-large rankings and seeding are not based on the AP or UPI/Coaches poll. The NCAA has set up their own separate committee to determine at-large teams and the schedule of play.
Round 1 is set for December 19 and 20. The top four highest-ranked conference champs will get a Round 1 bye, while the remaining seeds, play each other at the home of the higher seed (#12 at #5, #11 at #6, #10 at #7, and #9 at #8). The quarterfinals (round of 8) are set the December 31 Cotton Bowl and the January 1 Rose, Sugar, and Orange Bowls. Semi’s are set for January 8-9 Fiesta and Peach Bowls, with the Championship game set for January 19 in Miami.
These are the names/games TST will be monitoring, but there are many others in action. Tell us about your favorite matchups, prospects, or teams in the forum.
