Bayern Munich and German national team legend Lothar Matthäus wrote in a column for Sky Germany after Germany’s 4-0 win over Finland. While Matthäus was very impressed, he was extremely happy to see Jamal Musiala score:
I was especially pleased with Jamal Musiala ‘s goal to make it 4-0. Many people don’t know what it’s like to come back after such a serious injury. Either you trust him and give him support, or you leave him out completely. Julian Nagelsmann is doing the former; he trusts Musiala because
the national coach knows what he’s capable of. Every goal, every personal success, does him good and helps him progress.
Matthäus also admired the performances of Lennart Karl and Deniz Undav, but would like fans to take it slow with both players:
Lennart Karl, like Deniz Undav, really stood out with his two goals. But we shouldn’t get carried away. It was a friendly against Finland, not a World Cup match against Ecuador, where things will be much more intense. The good thing is that Nagelsmann has plenty of options. The team has many high-quality players who can be deployed appropriately depending on the opponent.
Finally, Matthäus loved what he saw from the midfield duo of Aleksandar Pavlović and Felix Nmecha:
Aleksandar Pavlovic and Felix Nmecha started in central midfield and did a good job. Nmecha, in particular, is a player who has everything it takes to play in the number eight position. He’s physically strong, technically gifted, and can cover the midfield with great speed. Nmecha is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world.
Germany will play the United Stated on Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
