Ousmane Dembele had some kind words for Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal after beating the forward to the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
The former Barcelona star finished top of the pile at Monday’s ceremony in Paris and took time out to hail Yamal when he spoke afterwards.
“We’ve seen Lamine Yamal compete throughout this season. He’s an extraordinary young man, a very mature player,” he said.
“I think if all the planets align, he’ll win many trophies like the Ballon d’Or. It’s been a good competition. There were
other players afterward, so it was a good battle.”
Dembele also thanked Barcelona as part of his acceptance speech, saying he learned a lot during his time with the Catalan giants.
“Thanks to all the clubs I’ve played for: Stade Rennes, Borussia Dortmund, and the club I always dreamed of playing for,” he added.
“Barcelona. I learned a lot there, playing alongside players like Messi and Iniesta. It was a great learning experience. I’m very happy.”
