In theory, NFL teams make use of the bye week to get healthy, with the rest of a week off helping their bodies recover from the carnage of life in the NFL. For the Seattle Seahawks, though, the bye week appears
to have done the exact opposite.
Specifically, at the receiver position, the Seahawks are set to take to the field on Sunday Night Football against the Washington Commanders without either of their fourth or fifth wide receivers, both of whom play key roles on special teams. Dareke Young was injured in the Week 7 win over the Houston Texans, while Jake Bobo suffered an Achilles injury during practice this week, and both were ruled out when the team released the final injury report Friday.
With those two unavailable, it left only Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Tory Horton as the only receivers on the 53-man roster available for the game Sunday evening, though Kupp was listed as questionable with a pair of injuries. However, just after midnight NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Kupp is unlikely to play.
That opens the door for rookie Tory Horton, along with Cody White and Ricky White, both of whom were elevated from the practice squad for the game.
It also means that third year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba represents an even more disproportionate amount of the Seahawks receiving production so far in 2025, and thus is likely to command significant attention from the Commanders.
Inactives are due 90 minutes before kickoff, and will be worth paying attention to even more than usual.
