Spring Training schedules are out, with an interesting matchup for the Royals ($):
In March, the Royals will play the Dodgers – the defending World Series champions – twice, on March 6 and March 17. There
will also be two split-squad dates and a spring breakout game on March 20.
KC’s spring training schedule also includes a new wrinkle: The Royals will play an exhibition game against Team Cuba on March 3. That game will be played just ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which begins the following day.
The Royals will finish Cactus League play March 21. Then they will travel to Arlington, Texas to play two additional exhibition games against the Rangers at Globe Life Field (March 23-24).
This writer totally dropped the ball on last Thursday’s rumblings, so here is the Arizona Fall League update that would have been in that morning’s piece:
- Blake Mitchell started two games at catcher and two as the DH and went 5-14 with two doubles and two walks. In 76 Fall League plate appearances, he is batting .232/.434/.321.
- Carson Roccaforte started a game in center field and three in right, going 6-17 with two doubles and two stolen bases. In 72 AFL plate appearances, he has hit .293/.417/.431 while also stealing seven bases in nine attempts.
- Daniel Vazquez is just playing every day at this point, starting four games at shortstop and two at third base and going 6-19 with two doubles, a homer, seven walks, and four stolen bases. In 90 plate appearances, he is hitting .329/.456/.466. He has also stolen 10 bags in 12 attempts.
- A.J. Causey made three relief appearances, working 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He has a 7.27 ERA across 8.2 AFL innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
- Dennis Colleran made two relief appearances and didn’t allow a baserunner, striking out four. He has a 1.35 in 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks.
- L.P. Langevin pitched 2.1 innings across two appearances, surrendering five runs. He’s posted a 6.75 ERA in 6.2 innings with 11 strikeouts and 12 walks.
- Logan Martin started a game and allowed six runs (three earned) in 0.2 innings. In eight innings he has a 13.50 ERA with three strikeouts and seven walks.
- Hunter Owen has not pitched since October 17, so I am assuming he is dealing with an injury.
Moving over to LIDOM:
- Carter Jensen made one start as the catcher and went 2-3 with a double and a walk
- Eric Cerantola worked 0.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Finally, LVBP:
- Beck Way pitched four innings in relief, allowing two runs.
