Good morning, BBN!
The Kentucky Wildcats are now heading into their first bye week of the season as they knocked off the Eastern Michigan Eagles this past Saturday. With a few weeks until the team takes the field, now is the perfect time for the staff to evaluate how they can take the next step to pick up some wins during SEC play this year.
At the moment, the Cats are getting some love from the latest ESPN SP+ rankings, maybe giving the fanbase a little hope heading into the rest of the season.
Coming
in at No. 41 overall, Kentucky rose three spots from its ranking last week. Holding a ranking of 9.1, the Cats are close to breaking into the top-40, and their matchup with South Carolina next week might be the perfect opportunity to do just that. When looking at the efficiency rankings of SP+ it is the defense (No. 29) and Special Teams (No. 8) that are carrying the load for this UK team, as the offense comes in at No. 62 overall.
The biggest benefit is that the rankings really favor the Cats over South Carolina, which comes in at No. 48 overall.
We have some time until the two teams take the field, but these two teams might be closer than we previously thought, especially if LaNorris Sellers misses a few weeks.
