The transfer window is nearing its completion and Bayern Munich seems to be missing alignment internally on the best way to close the summer.
Should Bayern Munich make a move for a player via a permanent transfer…or explore loan options? Earlier today, we found that the supervisory board is not going to sanction a transfer.
Süddeutsche Zeitung had the initial report, but added more information that really seems to show that not everyone is on the same page at Bayern Munich. Instead of any moves that would
make a major impact this summer, the club is reportedly eyeing a “squad overhaul” for next summer (via @iMiaSanMia):
This dilemma explains the current reports that Bayern want Christopher Nkunku only on loan. The sporting management thinks about the football and would like to have the player anyway. The strategic department thinks about money and the future and would therefore only sanction a loan, but not a permanent transfer.
Bayern bosses are now planning the major squad overhaul for next summer. Around March 2026, decisions will be made as to which of the players with expiring contracts (Gnabry, Goretzka, Guerreiro) should leave or stay with a pay cut – and which desired players should join the team, and whether the gap-filling loan player, who is supposed to arrive in the next ten days, might then be signed permanently or let go of.
The story lurking in the shadows is the status of Harry Kane, whose contract runs out in 2027. There is a need to find a successor and with the Nick Woltemade deal seemingly dead, Bayern Munich will have to strike first and strike hard in 2026 in effort to cover the personnel losses that it is likely to incur.
