Imagine knowing the history of Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid in the Champions League and complaining that Los Blancos got jobbed by the referees.
Well, during Bayern Munich’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, Real head coach Álvaro Arbeloa did just that. First, Arbeloa said that Bayern Munich center-back Jonathan Tah deserved a red card for his tackle on Kylian Mbappé before saying that his guy, Aurélien Tchouaméni, did not deserve to receive a first half yellow card — which will
put him out on suspension for leg two of the tie:
Yes, desperation has set in and frustration reigned supreme after the defeat, but it is that time of year. Arbeloa will be looking for solutions on how he can get his team ready to go for leg two, but it will not be easy on the road at the Allianz Arena.
For Arbeloa, the focus will need to be less on the referees and more on how to slow down Bayern Munich’s vaunted attack. Similarly, the Bavarians had better make some defensive improvements as well. Both teams know exactly how massive the second leg of this tie will be for how this season is remembered by their respective clubs and fans alike.
