The Jays have an off-day today, so we are going to have an Open Thread. And they are unlikely to give us any news today because they have a long plane ride to Seattle.
I have enjoyed going to Seattle for games in the past, but I’m not going to the states for a bit. Maybe again, one day, but not soon.
Last time I was there we went to a blues club one evening and, there was a great band playing, led by a older saxophone player. On a break he came and talked to us. He was very interesting, he had played
with everyone. BB King, Muddy Waters, even Howling Wolf…he was dropping all the great blues players names. He spent quite awhile talking to us and then said ‘Oh, some friends have come in, I have to go see them.’ I thought that he spent longer with us than I would expected anyway.
He talked to them for about two minutes and then came back and continued tell us about his career. He was very interesting. After a bit, he went back up to play. I always wondered why he decided to talk to me. I thought that it was likely because I knew the names he was talking about. And that he was a really nice guy who wanted to give us a little lesson in the history of blue music.
I had much the same thing happen about five years ago, watching a blues guitar player. At a break he was talking to us. He had a pretty interesting career too. This time I thought that he was talking to us because we were sitting at the bar, and I’d happily buy him a beer.
As always, you can use the thread to talk about anything you are interested in. Maybe tell us a story about the most famous, or interesting person you’ve ever met.
Or talk about the World Cup. The games have been great fun. Especially since team Canada has been winning and England has been too, though waiting until the last five minutes of the 90 to score was a little tough on me.
