Barcelona midfielder Pedri has sent his support to Fermin Lopez after the club confirmed the midfielder will undergo surgery on a fractured metatarsal.
Lopez sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against Real Betis and now looks set to miss World Cup 2026 with Spain.
Pedri says it’s a brutal blow for his team-mate and admitted he was really upset to hear the diagnosis.
“It’s a blow for everyone. Yesterday I was with him. He was really down. I get on very well with him and I hope he recovers well because
he is going to give us a lot both at Barça and in the national team,” he said, per Sport.
Fermin has played a key role in Barcelona’s title win this season, scoring 13 goals and grabbing 17 assists, and Pedri says he’s happy with the campaign.
“It’s been a good season. When you win titles you are always satisfied, but it is clear that we have some thorns in our side,” he said.
“On a personal level I’m happy, I’ve had some injuries that I wish hadn’t happened.”
Pedri is due to link up with the Spain squad for World Cup 2026, while Fermin will focus on his recovery and being ready in time for the new La Liga campaign.
