Daniel Cormier is denying Jon Jones’ latest tall tale coming from their time as coaches on a reality show earlier this year.
Jones and Cormier spent over a month in Thailand filming ALF Reality, which is basically a clone of The Ultimate Fighter but with crazy Russian fighters and a whole lot of extra-curricular brawling. In other words, TUF but entertaining. Jon and Daniel were heated rivals for years in their prime, with Jones beating Cormier twice (although one win was later overturned to a No
Contest due to a drug test failure).
Ten years later and Jones claims his beef with Cormier is over and “DC” just keeps it up for financial reasons.
“He said, ‘Jon, being your enemy has made me too much money over the years,'” Jones recalled in a new interview. “‘So even though I have no problem with you, when the cameras turn on I can never be your friend.’ I respect him for telling me.”
Now Daniel Cormier is coming out to refute that statement, pointing out an older video from Thailand where Jones called him a ‘stuffy dickhead asshole.’
“How does a person go from, ‘He’s such an asshole’ to now, [claiming] I would love to have this relationship with him and he doesn’t hate me?” Cormier asked in a new video. “That just didn’t happen. This is not a conversation that Jon and I had.”
“Have I made a lot of money because Jon Jones and I have been on the wrong side of each other? Yes. And so did Muhammad Ali with Joe Frazier … So did Khabib with Conor McGregor. You always need a person on the other side in order to make the big dollars. Of course, we make money because our rivalry has been what it’s been. It doesn’t mean that it’s it’s fabricated.”
Cormier and Jones may no longer be brawling with each other, but just because the temperature isn’t hot doesn’t mean things are cool.
“I have told you guys on this show, it’s not what it used to be,” Cormier explained. “We can operate around each other. That doesn’t mean that I’m forgiving all the wrongdoings or I forget all the things we said. Nasty, nasty things about each other, [it] doesn’t just go away unless you’re crazy. And I think Jon’s crazy.”
