Old Man Winter is expected to touch down in Texas this weekend for a massive snowstorm. For that reason, AEW shuffled plans by canceling the Collision taping and bringing back Billy Gunn. Read on to see
how one is connected to the other.
AEW was supposed to produce a live episode of Collision on Saturday night (Jan. 24, 2026) from Arlington, Texas. Due to the potential for dangerous weather conditions, Tony Khan didn’t feel good about asking his team to travel. Khan decided to cancel that show.
There will still be Collision this week in its normal time slot. Instead of broadcasting live from Texas, AEW is filming the episode Wednesday night (Jan. 21) from Orlando, Florida, which is the host city for Dynamite.
With the shift in plans, that also rearranged the Collision card. Khan announced that Claudio Castagnoli will defend the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship against Roderick Strong, who earned the shot in a #1 contender bout over the weekend in Arena Mexico. Mark Briscoe was booked to defend the TNT Championship against El Clon. That match is rescheduled for next week’s Dynamite. The winner will defend the TNT title on next week’s Collision. Andrade El Idolo wrestles this week on Collision against CMLL luchador Magnus. Mark Davis and Jake Doyle will be in action as well. Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita challenged the Bang Bang Gang for a tag bout. This is where Billy Gunn comes into play. Ace Austin is unavailable due to travel issues. Juice Robinson is injured. That leaves Austin Gunn to turn to Daddy Ass for help. Protoshida will face the father and son reunion of Billy and Austin.
Also of note, the ROH Global Wars event with Metroplex Wrestling was planned to tape this Saturday night. Khan shifted that show down the line one week for next Saturday to air on ROH HonorClub at a later date.
