The Philadelphia Eagles issued their third and final official injury report of the week on Friday in advance of their Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
The Eagles ruled five players OUT: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Drew Kendall, Marcus Epps, and Hollywood Brown.
Barkley missed practice all week due to a hamstring injury. With Barkley out and Tank Bigsby on injured reserve, the Eagles are down to two healthy running backs on the active roster: Will Shipley and Dameon Pierce,
who was promoted from the practice squad earlier this week. Pierce offered some intrigue in the offseason, so, it’ll be interesting to see if he can pop in regular season action. Of course, the Eagles’ offensive line situation might not really make that possible for him.
Smith is missing his second game in a row due to a hamstring injury. With Smith and Brown out, the Eagles are down to five wide receivers: Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Makai Lemon, Elijah Moore, and Britain Covey. Wicks is going to suit up despite suffering a hamstring injury on Thursday that had him limited in practice over the past two days. Cooper saw more snaps and targets than Lemon did in Week 4; it’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case again in London. Moore might see some occasional snaps on offense (as long as he can figure out what he’s supposed to be doing this time). Covey will probably be limited to punt return duty.
Kendall’s absence means the Eagles will be down to their third-string center option. It seems like the team might temporarily elevate Jake Majors from the practice squad to play in the pivot. Majors is a 2025 undrafted rookie free agent signing who has never played in an NFL regular season game. He also didn’t look very good in training camp this summer. Yikes.
Epps is missing his second straight game. The Eagles will start Andrew Mukuba and Cooper DeJean at safety in base packages with DeJean moving to the slot and Michael Carter II entering the game on the back end of the defense in nickel scenarios.
The Eagles ruled one player QUESTIONABLE: Jonathan Greenard.
Greenard’s status is curious since he did not practice this week. Players who don’t practice rarely play in games. But he’s a veteran and maybe he’ll be able to contribute in a limited capacity.
Players notably listed without a game status: Jalen Hurts, Dontayvion Wicks, Dallas Goedert, Quinyon Mitchell, Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell, Fred Johnson, E.J. Jenkins, and A.J. Epenesa.
Hurts is a new addition to the report. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice but he’s listed with a calf injury. Something to keep an eye on.
As previously noted, Wicks is set to play despite being less than 100%. Speaking during a Friday morning press conference, Nick Sirianni praised Wicks’ toughness.
Goedert is officially back in action after missing the Eagles’ last two games. His return is certainly a positive for an undermanned offense. Look for Hurts to target him often. Will be interesting to see how the Eagles split snaps among Goedert, Zach Ertz (assuming he’s temporarily elevated from the practice squad), Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins. Speaking of Jenkins, he’s also a new addition to the report with a toe injury but he fully participated in Friday’s practice.
Mitchell is ready to play after suffering a knee injury in Week 4. He was full go on Thursday and Friday. Good news for the defense.
Baun is also back in action after missing Week 4 due to a concussion. He’s been cleared to play.
Campbell missed some practice time this week due to a knee injury but he’s ready to suit up. We’ll see if the Eagles decrease his playing time at all while looking to get Jeremiah Trotter Jr. more involved. Vic Fangio said that much is a possibility.
Johnson is back after missing multiple games. He figures to serve as the swing tackle behind Jordan Mailata and Markel Bell. He could also factor in at guard in a pinch.
Epenesa is a new addition to the report with a back injury. He was limited on Friday but he’s not going to be held out due to injury.
