NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the following statement regarding Engelbert’s departure:
Cathy has presided over the WNBA through the most significant period of growth in the league’s 30-year history. We are grateful for Cathy’s leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of women’s basketball.
Englebert was named commissioner in 2019. She provided
over league expansion in Portland, San Francisco, and Toronto. She was also criticized heavily by WNBA players for lack of player compensation during the latest round of CBA negotiations.
