FanGraphs | Michael Baumann: Devin Williams has been one of the most disappointing Yankees in recent memory, and in light of his most recent implosion, Baumann delivers a deep dive on what’s gone wrong. This isn’t a case where there’s one obvious thing that’s changed and torpedoed Williams as a player; rather, it seems there are a number of places where Williams has just been a little worse. All those small regressions, combined with a healthy dose of what you could call bad luck or bad timing, have
led to Williams’ unsightly 5.68 ERA in 2025.
ESPN | Jorge Castillo: In case you missed it, the Yankees made news just by posting their lineup yesterday. Aaron Judge made his return to the right field, over a month since his last appearance on defense after suffering a flexor strain in his right arm. Also of note was the immediate inclusion of Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was removed from Thursday night’s game in Houston with contusions in both knees.
New York Post | Greg Joyce: How often do we start a sentence with something along the lines of “Aaron Boone insists”? Well, after his MLB-leading sixth ejection this week, Boone insisted that he actually has a good relationship with most of the league’s umpires. “I would say for the most part — and for me, it’s easy to separate. It’s not that personal for me with them. I’m just fighting for the [strike] zone”, Boone said. “But we’re all human beings, and you get along and enjoy some people and the other way too. That’s part of it.” We’ll wait to see if all the umps that have run him agree.
The Athletic | Chris Kirschner: ($) Cam Schlittler has provided a huge spark to the Yankee pitching staff this summer, and he represents what Sam Briend, the team’s director of pitching, calls the club’s “most holistic success story”. Schlittler was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft, and was seen as a pretty standard prospect: a low-90s fastball, middling secondaries. Fast forward three years later, and the Yankees have helped Schlittler develop into a stuff monster, with one of the most electric arsenals in the game. Last night’s rough start notwithstanding, he’s poised to play a role on the team’s playoff staff, something that would’ve seemed unthinkable even a year ago.
