Liverpool get a rare week off in the middle of a busy season that has seen them play twice a week since back into September, and with the injuries starting to pile up for manager Arne Slot a week off couldn’t come at a better time as it brings a few names into contention for Saturday’s match against Tottenham.
However, before the good news there’s the not-so-good news, as even a week off isn’t expected to be enough for defender Joe Gomez to be available and Dominik Szoboszlai’s ankle injury will require
scans and the extent of the damage, if any, and a return timeline isn’t likely to arrive until after that can happen.
“If a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe that’s normally not a positive thing,” Slot noted. “I would not expect him to be in the squad next week and people now maybe understand why I was so cautious not to play him in so many games. And Dom, it was his ankle. It didn’t look great but he has unbelievable mentality so let’s hope for the best.
“The good thing is that Conor Bradley comes back from a suspension and Jeremie Frimpong should start to train with us also.”
Liverpool will also be without Mohamed Salah for at least the next month as the forward heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations with his future in Red beyond that seemingly not 100% certain. At least, though, the return of Bradley against Spurs should answer the most pressing depth issue for the manager,
