It feels like injury issues have been a constant problem for us, and not just this year, but stretching back several seasons now. Perhaps that’s just the new normal, given the lengthy seasons and jam-packed
fixture lists. It’s probably something that all teams have to deal with it on some level; it just feels more drastic for us since we largely only pay close attention to one team.
In any case, those issues continue to restrict the selection choices available to Enzo Maresca, who certainly isn’t averse to putting square pegs in round holes, though probably would prefer to do so of his own accord, rather than being forced into it.
The relative lack of obvious choices can also be seen in the voting for tonight’s game by the WAGNH Community, with only Robert Sanchez, Marc Guiu, and Estevao breaking the 80 per cent barrier. Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah also clock in at over 70 per cent; a whopping twelve others are between 40 and 60. So let’s see where that leads us.
4-2-3-1 (81%)
Sanchez (85%) | Cucurella (67%), Chalobah (72%), Acheampong (61%), Gusto (60%) | Caicedo (77%), Lavia (59%) | Estevao (91%), Santos (56%), Neto (60%) | Guiu (91%)
So a solid mix of starters and backups. Those just missing out include Tosin (54%), Hato (40%), James (48%), Gittens (40%), Buonanotte (41%), and Alejandro Garnacho (37%)
