Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernández has led Spain to their second FIFA World Cup title this summer, bouncing back from a difficult season where he spent some crucial time recovering from the ACL injury he suffered more than a year ago.
The Spanish player is very keen on signing for Real Madrid this summer, according to reports in the Spanish press, and while it would be a fairly affordable signing for Los Blancos given that his current contract expires in 2027, president Florentino Pérez is reluctant
about this move, per Cadena SER and other Spanish outlets.
Rodri would be an immediate upgrade to the team’s midfield line, increasing Real Madrid’s ability to control the tempo of the game. However, he reportedly reached an agreement with candidate Enrique Riquelme a few months ago and that would be one of the reasons why Pérez doesn’t want to make a move for the Spanish player, sources told Managing Madrid. His age —Rodri turned 30 last month— and the fact that he suffered an ACL injury just a year ago have also been factors in Florentino Pérez’s current mindset, per those same sources.
Pérez could still change his mind, especially considering that Rodri would be a popular signing in the fan base. However, as things stand right now, Florentino Pérez is just not interested.
