Newcastle United could soon lose another long-serving player, with Everton emerging as a potential destination for Jacob Murphy.
According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Everton is interested in signing the 31-year-old winger, who has entered the final year of the contract he signed after joining Newcastle in 2017.
“Everton are keen on signing Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy,” Downie reported. “The 31-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his #NUFC contract and could leave this summer.”
Murphy has spent nine years at St. James’ Park, making more than 200 appearances and playing a key role in Newcastle’s 2025 Carabao Cup-winning campaign.
Downie added that Murphy could be available this summer as Newcastle continues reshaping its squad. Although no formal approach has been made yet, it’s fair to assume the Magpies will try and get as much money as possible for a player set to depart the club anyway in a year, and without much left in his tank to offer the side.
Everton is considering several attacking options, with Downie noting that the Merseyside club is also weighing a move to bring Jack Grealish back.
For Newcastle, Murphy’s future comes after the arrivals of Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen as part of the club’s younger recruitment strategy under sporting director Ross Wilson.
Downie also noted that Newcastle has already strengthened Murphy’s position by signing Toure from Hoffenheim, although the club missed out on landing its No. 1 target at the position in Victor Munoz, who joined Liverpool instead.
With Anthony Gordon already sold to Barcelona and several other changes taking place this summer, Murphy could become the latest departure if Everton follows its interest with a formal bid after spending nearly a decade on Tyneside.
