There is a bit of an embarrassment of riches going on in the Phillies’ starting rotation. They have four pitchers that are throwing the ball very well and a fourth is Zack Wheeler. He’s going to start a playoff game for the Phillies. However, just for funsies, let’s say it came down to a five game series where a fourth starter was needed. At that point, the team will have to make a decision.
Who is going to start that game: Aaron Nola or Andrew Painter?
It’s still at least a month away before that
scenario is something that would become a reality, so lots of things can happen in the meantime. Maybe they decide that Painter has had enough for this year and shuts him down. Maybe one or both of them revert back to where they were at the beginning of the season. Maybe they continue being as effective as they have been of late all the way into October.
A lot can happen, but it’s still nice to dream.
