The international break is nearly over and Germany finally showed up to win.
Germany faced Serbia in the group stage of the Nations League, and with one draw and one loss, they needed the points tonight. Against Serbia, manager Jürgen Klopp fielded primarily youth players, and it gave the result they needed. With two goals from Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz, the team morale has vastly improved from what it was after the loss to Greece.
Goalscorer Wirtz echoes this sentiment. Following a disappointing
start to his season at Liverpool, he has been heavily written off, but against Serbia he looked earnest. Speaking on the game, he raved about how enjoyable it was and credited his teammates for following the game plan perfectly.
“It was incredibly enjoyable. I think every single player gave everything on the pitch today and followed the game plan. We got almost everything right today,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia.
Wirtz described his experience of playing as captain. “Wearing the captain’s armband is something special. It makes you proud,” he raved.
“I just tried to give everything I had on the pitch. The players around me also made it very easy for me today. There was a lot of movement in our game, and we were all eager to play football. That makes it easier to shine,” he declared.
It is incredibly heartwarming to see a player back in his element both physically and mentally. Good football really does wonders.
