What is the story about?
The girls don’t seem to care what’s on
As long as they play ’til dawn
Nothin’ but Dots and Elvis
And somebody else’s favorite song
- If a Husky breaks an NCAA record, I’m going to put it at the start of Dots. Hana Moll, a three-time NCAA pole vault champion already, broke her own NCAA record at the Mt. SAC relays. Moll cleared 15’9” to set the new standard and win the meet. Elsewhere at the relays, Alex Rhodes broke 45 seconds in the 400 meters, bringing him up to #3 nationally in the event.
- Husky women’s sports made other headlines over the weekend. Fresh off a excellent season and advancing in the NCAA tournament, Tina Langley and the UW WBB team brought in a big time transfer. The Dawgs plugged a hole on the interior with 6’6” NC St transfer Tilda Trygger. She will be able to space the floor and still provide rim protection with a demonstrated ability to shoot threes and block shots.
- Jedd Fish has said since he was hired at Washington that he would find playing time for freshmen who could help the team win. Christian Caple writes about how two local freshmen could be taking that principle to new levels this fall. Kodi Greene and Derek Colman-Brusa look poised to earn starting spots on the veteran-focused offensive and defensive lines, respectively. Green and Colman-Brusa are both from the Seattle area and were lifting partners in the winter. Caple writes that their on-field play could be another tie to bind them going forward.
- The mid-season slump for UW Softball continued this weekend on the road against rival Oregon. The Dawgs suffered a dip two weeks ago following their 20-game winning streak followed by a victorious sweep over Minnesota. Playing ranked Oregon on the road looked like a tougher challenge, and the Huskies just couldn’t get enough offense going to pull out any wins.
- UW Women’s rowing is one of the top groups in the country, ranked #5. They lived up to that ranking over the weekend at the Big 10 Invitational in Lake Natoma, California this weekend. The Huskies won 14 of the 21 races in which they participated, with seven crews each racing three times. The Windermere Cup on Montlake is coming up on May 2.
