They’re heading into the locker rooms at Croke Park in Dublin for halftime, and your Minnesota Vikings have a bit of a hole to dig out of, as they trail the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 14-6.
The Vikings
started the quarter with the ball in Pittsburgh territory, but a false start on Christian Darrisaw and a sack of Carson Wentz led to the Vikings punting the ball away. It took the Steelers exactly one play to convert, as Aaron Rodgers found D.K. Metcalf on a short pass that he turned into a big 80-yard touchdown as he ran through the Vikings’ defense without resistance for a touchdown to make it 14-3.
Minnesota then pushed into Pittsburgh territory on their next possession, and Wentz’ pass intended for Jordan Addison was tipped by rookie Derrick Harmon at the line of scrimmage and into the hands of DeShon Elliott for a Pittsburgh interception as the rough first half for Minnesota continued. The Steelers moved down into the Minnesota red zone on the ensuing drive, but Jalen Redmond got his second sack of the afternoon to drag Rodgers down and they forced the Steelers to settle for a field goal attempt, but Chris Boswell’s attempt at a 30-yard field goal was blocked by Isaiah Rodgers to keep the score at 14-3.
The Vikings got the ball back with one timeout remaining about less than two minutes left. Wentz led a very impressive drive into Steelers territory and down into the Pittsburgh red zone. Unfortunately, the drive stalled out again and the Vikings settled for another Reichard field goal, this one a 28-yarder to make it 14-6.
That’s how we go into halftime, with the Vikings getting the ball first in the third quarter after deferring on the opening coin toss.
