When Steelers wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was suspended for two games following an altercation with a fan in Detroit, CBS Sports reported that language in his contract voided a combined $45 million in guarantees
over the next two years. The would make it much easier for Pittsburgh to get out of his four-year, $132 million contract down the road.
However, reporting for FOX Sports on Sunday morning, NFL insider Jay Glazer said the Steelers decided not to void those guarantees.
“First of all, because he got suspended, the Steelers could’ve basically taken back all of his guarantees. They, however, have decided not to do that,” Glazer said. “They don’t want to do something that. They kind of want to make a long-term commitment to D.K. Metcalf.”
Glazer’s report appears to contextualize an earlier report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, which said the Steelers had reaffirmed their commitment to Metcalf following the suspension.
Glazer also reported he had acquired a security report regarding Metcalf’s past complaints about the fan he confronted in Week 16 that led to the suspension. He said he would talk about it later.
