Help is on the way for a banged up Seattle Seahawks backfield.
After Sunday’s report from Jay Glazer that running back Joe Mixon would work out for the Seahawks on Monday — something that was confirmed as a formal tryout on the league’s transaction wire — the other shoe has dropped in the form of a deal between the team and the veteran. NFL reporter Jordan Schultz was first to report the signing, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter providing the information that Mixon would join the team’s practice squad, not
53-man roster.
Mixon, 30, is back in the league after he missed the entire 2025 season with a foot injury that led him to tell former teammates he was done in the NFL. Prior to his year away, the two-time Pro Bowler was a 14-game starter for the Houston Texans in 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards on 4.1 yards per carry, while adding another 309 yards through the air. The long-time Cincinnati Bengal has broken the 1,000-yard mark in five of his eight seasons, with a career-high 1,205 yards coming in 2021.
While Mixon will get his start in Seattle as a part of the practice squad, he’ll presumably feature on gameday in short order. Rookie Jadarian Price is on injured reserve with a chest injury, while Zach Charbonnet — whose practice window is open as he looks to come off the PUP list — won’t play in Week 5.
Though Emanuel Wilson’s 81-yard performance on Sunday helped the Seahawks get by with a win while their backfield was in a tough spot, further help is on the horizon in the form of Mixon.
