Since finally being able to return to AEW last fall, Andrade El Ídolo has been steadily getting over with his Real Latino Man character. With (planted) selfie-seeking ladies flagging him down during matches and a popular catchphrase in “How You Know?”, Andrade got popular enough to climb the ladder during his second stint in Tony Khan’s employ. That gave him a reason to bristle at being a member of Don Callis’ Family and turn face, and a storyline fighting his former group to start his tecnico run
in AEW.
In that storyline, El Ídolo beat Jake Doyle to earn a shot at one the Callis Family’s championships, the National title held by Mark Davis. Andrade’s schtick showed up here…
Like most of his opponents, it frustrated Davis. And Andrade paid for being so in demand…
But a battle on the apron ended with the champ being rana-ed into the ringpost. An Andrade moonsault to the floor followed…
After getting Davis back in the ring, Andrade hit him with his Dia De Los Muertos elbow and DM finisher to become National champ.
