The Tigers head to the brand-new ultra-private Halbert National Golf Club in Granbury, Texas, for their final competition of the fall season.
Teams will play three rounds of stroke play Oct. 19-21, which will be streamed on the Golf Channel.
The course
The tournament is hosted on biotech entrepreneur David Halbert’s $50 million “passion project” course, which only opened this past spring.
The secluded par-72 course measures 7,542 yards and is built on 185 acres of former farmland. This is the first tournament
hosted on the course, and because of its private nature, there’s not much information about it.
“We don’t know anything about the golf course,” said Mizzou head coach Glen Millican.
The course, located about an hour Southeast of Fort Worth, is designed by renowned golf architect Tom Fazio.
Here’s a look at the course:
The team
The Mizzou roster includes senior Veikka Viskari, junior Trent Mierl, freshman Antoni Hawkins, junior Paxton Maxwell and senior Brock Snyder.
The Tigers are coming off last week’s fifth-place finish at The Bryson Invitational where Mierl and Viskari placed in the top five.
Viskari has led the Tigers this season with a 71.08 scoring average, followed closely by Mierl at 71.16.
The competition
Mizzou is competing against eight other Division I teams, two of which are ranked above the Tigers. Texas A&M is ranked #28 and Michigan is ranked #54 among Division I teams, just a hair above #56 Missouri. Arizona and Rice aren’t too far behind at #71 and #75, respectively.
Here’s the full list of competing teams:
- Abilene Christian University (#144)
- Rice University (#75)
- Southern Methodist University (#148)
- Texas A&M University (#28)
- University of Arizona (#71)
- University of Houston (#172)
- University of Michigan (#54)
- University of Missouri (#56)
- University of Tulsa (#134)
“It’s going to be a really special event, being on television and the way they’re setting it up and the field they’ve put together,” Millican said. “It’s going to be one of the best experiences of the year for college golf.”
