Good morning, Broncos Country.
Entering Week 5 of the NFL regular season, the Denver Broncos are 2-2. It’s certainly not where they hoped to be four games in. Yet being a .500 ball club given their tough slate of opponents isn’t a terrible spot.
Moving forward, the Broncos have a lot to work on. That much is certain. It’s safe to say they haven’t played a complete game in all three phases thus far. They’ve struggled stopping the run on defense. After back-to-back franchise record setting seasons sacking opposing quarterbacks, Denver’s
fearsome front seven haven’t been as potent rushing the passer.
On special teams, the only bright spot has been Jeremy Crashaw and decent coverage units. Unfortunately, there have been several missed field goals, a big turnover that proved to be a backbreaker against the San Francisco 49ers, and few kick or punt returns that have given them quality field position.
However, the lack of production and consistency on offense may be the most worrisome development to date. Prior to the season, many fans believed Nix and Denver’s offense was poised for a breakout campaign. The team added Jaylen Waddle to upgrade their wide receiver corps, drafted Jonah Coleman to bolster their rushing attack, and brought back their entire offensive line that ranked as one of the best in 2025.
Those were all adequate reasons for fans to be bullish on their potential. Alas, the Broncos have started off slow—much like in years past. That has led to rightful criticism and concerns on how things will shake out as the season continues. Nevertheless, longtime wide receiver Courtland Sutton remains confident Denver has the players and coaching staff to get things back on track.
“It is all right in front of us. We still have the utmost faith in our players and our abilities that we have and the coaches to put us in the right position. It’s just maximizing those opportunities when they do arise,” stated Sutton.
Sutton placed the onus on himself and the rest of his teammates on offense to get things right. They know the talent is there; they just have to focus on the details and minimize the self-inflicted wounds and mistakes that have got them in an early-season rut.
“From a player perspective, we can always do more. There are things here and there that we may not be fully dialed in on. There is a little bit of attention to detail that we need to tighten up as players. As a collective, we need to find a way to maximize the opportunities when they do pop and minimize the lack of attention to detail that may transpire over the course of a full game,” added Sutton.
The opportunity to put their best foot forward presents itself on Sunday when the Broncos head to Los Angeles to take on the winless Chargers. There is no doubt that they have a lot of talent offensively. The question is can they finally live up to it? We are fixing to find out shortly.
