Because we have an early game this week, we’ve made every effort to get you the results of this week’s SB Nation Reacts poll about our Minnesota Vikings before kickoff, and we have those results for you here
now. Let’s get to them!
First off, we had our standard question about how confident everyone is in the direction of the team. As expected, after the loss to Philadelphia in Week 7, we’ve officially hit a new low for the year.
Of those who responded to our poll for this week, only 31% believe that the purple are heading in the right direction. This is the usual pattern we see when it comes to this question, but I find it hard to believe that the wheels have already come off of this season when the Vikings are sitting with a record of 3-3. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think it’s time to shovel dirt on this team yet by any stretch.
Our second question is when everyone thinks that J.J. McCarthy will be returning to the starting quarterback role. It appears that a lot of folks think that #9 is going to be back sooner rather than later.
We got a majority for this one, as 61% of our respondents believe that McCarthy will be back when the Vikings travel to Detroit in Week 9 to face the Lions. I think that makes sense. Even after the performance Carson Wentz had on Sunday, it wasn’t realistic to expect McCarthy to come back on a short prep week. If he’s not back on Sunday, though, I think it’s going to be a bit of a head scratcher. Of the other answers, 25% think the team will wait until the Vikings host Baltimore in Week 10, 7% think that we won’t see McCarthy until Week 12 at the earliest, and another 5% think that he’ll return to the lineup when the Vikings host the Bears in Week 11.
Our last question was who you wanted to see at quarterback in the event that McCarthy can’t go. Not surprisingly, folks want a change in that scenario.
A full 64% of our readers feel that, if McCarthy is going to continue to be sidelined, the team should turn to undrafted rookie Max Brosmer over Carson Wentz. It’s an understandable sentiment. . .Carson Wentz is, obviously, not a part of the long-term future of this team, while there’s at least a chance that Brosmer could be. Then again, as someone said in our roundtable discussion that Brandon posted earlier today, it does have a bit of “Let’s start Jaren Hall” energy to it as well. . .and we remember how that went, right?
Those are our SB Nation Reacts results for this week, ladies and gentlemen. As always, we want to thank all of you who took the time to participate by voting in the poll and leaving comments. We’ll have more questions for you next week.
