The date for the NFL schedule release has been set, and the league has turned it into an event. May 14th is the day fans will find out when their team will face their opponent list. As far as the San Francisco 49ers go, they already have two international games, including the season opener in Australia against the Los Angeles Rams. Fans eagerly await the schedule to buy tickets and plan trips to cheer on their favorite team.
The schedule release is a big deal, not only for travel plans but also for teams
to see how their opponents are staggered over 18 weeks. When teams match up is important, as is finding out when the critical bye week appears for rest.
One recent thing to watch for with the schedules is whether your team is playing on a holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and sometimes New Year’s Eve have been home to 49ers games in the past few years.
The question is: Do you enjoy watching the 49ers play on the holidays?
Football games are tense. Holidays are a time for family get-togethers and parties, but can you pay attention to your family and friends if your team is playing in a late November or December regular-season game? While it is fun for your team to play on national television or whatever streaming platform has broadcast rights, the games that are late in the season are tense. Think a Thanksgiving matchup with Seattle.
Holiday games run the risk of people having a rough holiday if their team unfortunately loses. Personally, I watch the 49ers play alone so I can concentrate, take my notes, and not have to explain to people why I’m so quiet. We all have our routines, but watching your team play at a holiday party isn’t particularly fun, in my opinion.
