USWNT midfielder Rose Lavelle has re-signed with Gotham FC on a deal running through the 2029 NWSL season, ESPN reports. Gotham is expected to use the NWSL’s new High Impact Player (HIP) rule on this contract.
Lavelle’s existing contract with the defending champions runs through the 2026 season, so the attacking midfielder was set to become a free agent at the end of the year. ESPN reported that several teams made “aggressive offers” to Lavelle before she ultimately decided to stay at Gotham.
Lavelle
was instrumental to Gotham’s title campaign last season, netting the game-winner against the Washington Spirit in the NWSL Championship game. She has four goals on the season so far this year, including two game-winners for a side seeking its first ever NWSL Shield.
Lavelle and Gotham FC next take on expansion side Denver Summit on Sunday, September 6th at 2 PM ET.
