Rutgers Defensive End Eric O’Neill has been named to ESPN’s 2025 top 100 players in college football list. He was the only Scarlet Knight to make the list this season, and adds this list to many other preseason honors he has been awarded recently, including being named to the Senior Bowl 300 and the Lott-IMPACT Trophy Watchlist.
“One of Rutgers’ biggest additions in the offseason, O’Neill comes from James Madison after a standout campaign with the Dukes. The 6-3, 255-pound end was a force to be reckoned
with and set the pace for a stingy JMU defense that led the nation in turnover margins last year. – ESPN writer Paolo Uggetti”
O’Neill landed at No. 84 on the list after having a stellar season last year at JMU. Last season, O’Neill totaled 52 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, and one pick-six. He was named to the HERO Sports Group of Five All-America First Team last season for his efforts.
Over his career of playing college football, O’Neill has totaled 185 tackles, 63 tackles for loss, 28.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
O’Neill, along with other transfer portal addition Bradley Weaver, and Jordan Walker, who led the team in sacks last season, is expected to revitalize Rutgers’ pass rush for the 2025 season.
