Newcastle United are ready to enter talks with Tino Livramento over a new contract in a move designed to fend off growing interest from Manchester City.
The 22-year-old full-back has three years left on his current deal but has emerged as one of Eddie Howe’s most important players since joining in 2023 while catching the attention of the uber-giants from Manchester.
Sources told Football Insider that City have identified Livramento as a top target to replace Kyle Walker, who left for Burnley this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s side scouted him extensively at the Under-21 Euros, where he featured prominently in England’s success.
Former Manchester United and Sunderland scout Mick Brown said Newcastle “definitely want to get Livramento tied down” amid City’s interest.
“He’s a player who’s come on a lot in his development over the last year or so,” Brown said. “They can’t afford to lose him as well as Trippier and then be scrambling to find a replacement. He’s become a very important player for Eddie Howe.”
Livramento made 45 appearances across all competitions last season, starting 38 times and showing his versatility on both flanks. Newcastle consider him as the long-term successor to Kieran Trippier, whose contract and career are quickly approaching their end.
City are expected to try and launch another offensive for Tino after failing to land a right-back this summer, but Newcastle remain firm in their stance that the player is not for sale and are prepared to demand “crazy” money if formal offers arrive.
