Professional wrestling has always been full of eccentric oddballs, so it comes to no surprise that many wrestlers have mourned the passing of Tim Curry, an actor beloved for his portrayals of outlandish characters.
Perhaps best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the “sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania,” in the 1975 cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry also delivered memorable performances such as Rooster Hannigan in 1982’s Annie; Wadsorth in Clue (1985); Pennywise the Clown
in 1990’s It; Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (1996); and many others.
Nic Nemeth (aka Dolph Ziggler) remembered Curry on X (Twitter) for his role as King Chicken in the 1990’s cult animated series Duckman.
“As a horror lover, Tim Curry scared me in the best way,“ Shotzi Blackheart posted on X. ”As a theater kid, I wanted to be Tim Curry. I wanted to play the most bizarre, larger than life roles just like him.
“When I applied to AMDA, I had to write a paper about the performer who inspired me most, I chose Tim Curry.
RIP to an absolute legend.“
“RIP Tim Curry. Another legend gone. He was great as Pennywise in It. Great in Clue. Great in the Rocky Horror picture show. Great as the voice of Hook in Peter Pan. Great in all that he did. A gem of a talent and actor,” former TNA World Champion Frankie Kazarian wrote.
“My mother showed me the Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was 11. I was obsessed,” Taya Valkyrie wrote. “I choreographed an entire dance for a comp to the Time Warp at 12 yrs old. RIP Tim Curry, what an absolute icon.”
Some wrestling stars noted Curry passed away in the same week as music icon/philanthropist Dolly Parton.
WWE star Piper Niven wrote: “Oh my god, first Dolly and now Tim Curry?! The earth angels are leaving us. Check in on your queers, we are not ok.”
“First Dolly, now Frank N Furter?! ENOUGH,” Willow Nightingale said on X.
Leva Bates expressed a similar sentiment, writing: “The news of Dolly broke me, but now adding Tim Curry shattered the rest.”
“This week sucks,” Nyla Rose simply wrote in a post that contained a story about Curry’s passing.
