Manchester City hope to get their season back on track as they welcome struggling Wolves to the Etihad Stadium. City are yet to win a Premier League match in 2026, having drawn three and lost one of their four
matches of the New Year.
Despite winning their League Cup semi-final at Newcastle and their FA Cup tie with Exeter, City remain unconvincing so far in 2026, and face a difficult task of top eight qualification in the Champions League after a shocking display in Norway in midweek.
The Blues trail Arsenal by seven points and must beat Wolves on Saturday to try and keep the pace with the Gunners. With the prospect of two extra Champions League matches to play, the Blues must try to keep the gap between them and leaders as low as possible and try to avoid any additional problems to their injury-stricken side.
Wolves have, in fairness, looked like relegation candidates since the opening day when the Blues thrashed them 4-0, and have claimed just one win since that day. And that win finally came in the first match of 2026 in a 3-0 home win over West Ham.
They are 14 points from safety and fighting for their lives, so don’t expect am easy ride today.
As always, our team are here to give us their views and opinions on the match. Here’s what we think this week.
Saul
Talk about needing a result, City will come out with their head on fire and win comfortably, at least I hope. 3-0.
City 3-0 Wolves
Will
A week where I’ve been struck down with a cold and I’ve been really busy with university work has not been helped at all by City’s poor form, with two dreadful performances. To lose heavily to what’s essentially a group of amateurs… and then to lose to Bodo Glimt as well just isn’t acceptable.
Wolves have gone four games unbeaten and I can’t say I have any confidence in City at all. They’ll probably find a way to win but it won’t be pretty.
City 3-2 Wolves
Thomas
Who knows? The third-place team in the table shouldn’t have trouble with the 20th, but I’m not convinced City can keep anyone out of the net at this point. Hopefully, Guehi can help stabilize the defense. Maybe City can get an early goal. Maybe.
City 3-2 Wolves
Pete
Typical City is returning to Manchester. I say this because I really don’t know which City side will turn up today. They could potentially blow Wolves away and be accused of not being professional, they could labour to a 1-0 win or they could well lose. Who knows? I’ve given up this week with logic. I’m going for a simple yet effective win.
City 2-0 Wolves
What happened against United and Bodo
To be honest, the less said the better. United played their cup final and Bodo played on a plastic pitch as City froze in the Arctic Circle. And Pete didn’t realise they were playing so early and was still at work when the Bodo match kicked off.
Anyway, no one got anything right…hold on…stop the press…Pete got a perfect score against United. Just not the result. He went for 2-0 to City so he gets extra points for the goal difference and right number of goals. There is a flaw here!!!
Against Bodo, well, Saul did the same as Pete…got the score right just the wrong result. Will went for 4-1 City and Thomas went crazy, not realising that by kick off, the team would be icicles and went for 5-0. Pete was a muppet so didn’t predict.
Here’s the table:
