We have entered a strange new world in college football. The Bowl Subdivision (FBS) has reached a point where teams don’t want to play in bowl games (see the Sports! section below). If you don’t make the college football playoff,
is it worthwhile to play a bowl game?!?
Both Husker basketball teams continue their undefeated starts to the season. The ladies are especially an interesting study in the evolution of a coach. Amy Williams was a defense-first coach who chased recruiting stars early in her tenure. I don’t list either of those as a criticism. She wanted those for her program and was successful is chasing them.
Now, she doesn’t chase recruiting as much as she looks for a fit for her program. And, that seems to be paying off. The Husker women look like they will be a regular fixture in the NCAA tournament and will challenge for rankings regularly. She still gets highly ranked recruits (see: Prince, Britt) but makes sure they are gritty players who are willing to play their role.
What do you think about any of the topics above? Bowl games? Women’s basketball recruiting/development?
